What is Reiki?

Reiki therapy in Swansea - based on the teachings of Mikao Usui's Reiki Association originating in Japan.

Where it originated Reiki is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist form of healing which was rediscovered by a Japanese theology professor called Mikao Usui in the 19th c. Reiki is a hands-on form of healing which tackles the cause, not just the symptoms, healing the whole person, body, mind and spirit.

Aromatherapy in South Wales

Reiki was brought to the west in the 1970’s, and is becoming increasingly popular as a complementary therapy. It can be learnt equally well by anyone, adults and children, whatever their level of health or vitality. It can be practiced on oneself, unlike other forms of hands-on therapy.

Also unlike other forms of healing, Reiki energy comes from its universal source, not from the individual.

Reiki and the chakras

To understand Reiki and the hand positions used, one will have to have some knowledge of the chakras. The Reiki hand positions as used here in the west, covers and treats all the major chakras. The chakras are both connected to the physical organs in our body and the different layers in the aura.

Every chakra has a corresponding organ in our physical system.

  • The crown chakra does not have a corresponding organ but is related to the whole being.
  • The third eye (forehead) chakra belongs to the brain, face, nose, eyes etc.
  • The throat chakra relates to the lungs and the throat.
  • The heart chakra belongs to the heart and the arms.
  • The solar plexus chakra is in relation to the liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen and the small intestine.
  • The sacral chakra belongs to the reproduction system, the testicles and ovaries and also the urinary bladder and kidneys.
  • The base or root chakra belongs together with the large intestine and the rectum. It also has a certain influence on the function of the kidneys.
  • There is a clear connection between the condition of a chakra and the condition of the corresponding organ. A chakra can be over active, under active or in balance. Using Reiki can give the chakras balance and the organs health.
  • Because the energy channelled by Reiki has been shown to give over 50% better results, Reiki is not only used as a therapy on its own, it is increasingly learnt by healers and practitioners of other therapies to enhance their work.

Reiki treatment

When you visit a Reiki Practitioner, you will be placed on a therapy couch (fully clothed), you will have the option of also being covered by a blanket to keep the heat in.

Your Reiki Practitioner will then either place their hands on or hover above your chakra areas. You will have your eyes closed and you will be asked to relax while listening to soft relaxing background music.

Before I start a treatment I ask the person if they would allow me to place crystals on their Chakra points which will correspond in colour to the chakra. I feel that using crystals enhances the Universal Energy.

A treatment lasts roughly half an hour or an hour.
